Trips 2009

Jedburgh
Or a near geriatric weekend away!
This year was a bit of a wash out, spent weeks in hospital off and on. When I wasn't in there after work and at weekends I was fit for nothing.
Going on a trip with a difference on May 30/31st, I am taking my mate Stevie up to Jedburgh for an overnight stay. The reason simply being he has never even sat on a bike before, let alone been pillion on one. The reason I picked Jedburgh is because the round trip from Stalybridge and back is just over 400 miles. Stevie wanted to go up to Strathconon, around trip of over 900 miles. We would have been staying there a week , where we stay is 11 miles down Strathconon and the nearest shop is about 15 miles away. So well over a 1000 miles for the week. I decide as a first trip that was to much, so Jedburgh it is for the weekend.
Spent some time getting the beemer ready, bits of jobs that needed doing. Put the rack and box back on tank bag is on and bag on front forks. Did some maintenance, valve clearences and tweeked the carbs.
Borders 07
The plan is ride up Saturday to The Airenlea B&B, go to the Carters Rest for a good meal and stop some beer going bad. On Sunday ride back and recover.
Setting Off
Stevie on the phone to his wife, complaining his backside was aching. Which is all he did all weekend, complain to anybody that would listen.
Housesteads Roman Fort
Housesteads is part of Hadrians Wall a defensive system which cuts right across the north of Britain, and runs for roughly 70 miles. The B6318 road runs alongside the line of the wall, and Housesteads is easily accessable from the car park. The fort was built around 124 AD shortly after the wall had been started around   122 AD.
It was in the car park when one of those as the words leave your mouth, you know you shouldn't have said them moments happened.
Stevie had been complaing all day his backside was sore. As we walked across the crowded car park, I turned to Steve and said "hows your arse now Steve?" The looks we got I can't describe, two blokes one asking the other how is arse is!
