Got invited to put the Beemer on the BMW Club stand at the Classic Bike Show in Stafford in 2006. Getting it there was interesting, I could have rode it but I wanted it nice and clean for the three days it was on the stand. The Beemer has never been on a trailer before, and the bike trailer I borrowed had out riggers fitted, so push bikes could be attached.
After struggling to get the bike on the trailer I had to get it off again at Stafford. Being on trailer meant the bike was quite high up, and with the out riggers it meant you couldn't get very close up to support the bike. Luckily Stu had gone with me, I am only a short a**e, but Stu is six foot so he did the moving and I did the steadying.
Once off the trailer I found we were on the balcony that runs round three sides of the exhibition hall. This meant riding it up a very steep quite narrow ramp with no sides and a long drop from the top.
Everything I had added had to come off. Top box, rack and screen so the ST looked like she did when new.
There was quite a bit of interest shown in the ST, their not exactly rare but not commom either. There was only 5600 sold world wide over a two year period.
A couple of views of the main hall from the balcony we were on
Even Jan got up there broken ankle and all
This is a BMW R80 GS, this is the off road bike that the ST was developed from. First introduced in October 1980 it was the original big trail bike. The GS is still going strong but is now a whopping 1200cc, they were used by Charlie Boorman & Ewan McGreggor in the Long Way Round (1150cc GS) and The Long Way Down series.
BMW R1200 GS, looks a bit different from the early model it's also more expensive over 9 Grand. Beautifiul bike though.
BMW R90 S
Right: I think this is an R60/5
Left: BMW R5
Ive always liked Suzuki's so here are some immaculate ones I snapped at the show ( they didn't look this good when they were new). Their all two stroke triples.
