The above photograph is a view of Back Cowm Quarry, this is where my son Stuart can be found most Sundays trials riding.
The quarry is run by Cowm Leisure, and is located above Cowm Reservior just off the A671 Rochdale to Bacup Road. The quarry caters for all off road activites, but is most suited for Trials bikes and 4X4's.
The area covers around 150 acres, and as you can see from the photographs caters for all skill levels. Click on the link to go to the official Cowm Leisure web site, this site is still under cronstruction but will give details of times etc.
Because of people riding/driving to the venue on public roads in non road legal vehicles, the local police are clamping down and will fine anybody caught. Parents of children caught riding on public roads, will be fined and possibly have points put on their licence.
This group of photographs of the site show more of the terraine.

Stu's 1996 Beta Techno 250
Above: Stuart about to descend one of the many slopes at Cowm.
We had to do some pretty heavy maintenance awhile ago. The bolts on the rear suspension linkage had broken, and the linkage was hanging loose. Also the front fork seals were shot so we replaced those and the disc pads. We then realised the engine and rear sprocket were shot as well as the chain.

Left:
Stu's first bike. A Yamaha TY175, don't know the age of this one. Bought it from a friend, so I could teach Stuart to ride. When I was sure he was going to take up trials riding, and he had progressed enough I bought him the Beta Techno 250. Andy a friend of ours owned the Beta, and Stuart always wanted it. So when Andy bought his new Beta Rev 3, I bought the bike off him.
Right:
This is my daughter Jen's bike. It's a 1978 Beta SP1, I got it for her to learn to ride on. The TY175 was just a bit to quick for her at first, so when I saw this for sale I bought it.
