The BMW normally looks like the pic above, but it's service time ready for the trip to Strathconon and then the far north of Scotland.
I will be doing about 1500 miles in a couple of weeks. Up to Strathconon for a week, then up the east coast to John o' Groats and across to Strathy point. Where I will be staying at the Catalina B&B for a couple of days. I will then come back down the west side back to Strathconon, for the rest of the holiday.
Left: Having a break at Southwaite services on the M6 near Carlisle.
Below: Only been there a day and the girls had already found a horse.
Below & right: Went to Cromarty for a boat trip into the Cromarty & Moray Firth. No Dolphins to be seen on this trip thought
Below: Helmsdale I stopped for a cuppa on the way north
Below: Parked in a lay by above the village of Berriedale
Below & Left: Called at Lybster harbour for a look around.
Below & right: Duncansby Head near John o' Groats, the wind was so strong it almost blew the BMW over.
Below: Duncansby head looking towards the island of Stroma
I stayed at The Catalina a B & B at Aultivulan near Srathy Point on the north coast.
Below: Strathy Point
Below: I was stopping to take a pic by Loch Naver, when the back wheel of the Beemer locked up.
The back brake drum was to hot to touch and I had to wait before I could remove the back wheel. A spring had broken and become jammed in the hub, I removed the spring cleaned the hub as best I could. Then set off back to the Catalina.
Below: Torrisdale Bay
Back at the Catalina carrying out emergency repairs, no chance of getting a new spring. I ordered one to be delivered to the cottage in Strathconon, and I would fit it there.
Nice place to break down though!
On the road back: At The Kyle of Durness, the sign on the gate read 'Please Shut The Gate'. If you look closely there is no fence, just the gate by the side of the road.
Taking a break near Kylesku overlooking Loch Glendhu & Loch Glencoul.
The Kylesku bridge
Loch Droma
Apart from the break down, being charged by a Highland Cow while riding down the road and on the way home rain so bad it got through all my waterproofs. It was quite an uneventful trip really.
